Nissan designed the trans with double cone synchronizers on 2nd and 3rd gears only, as these are the most frequent shifts. Effort required for the changes to and from 4th and 5th was found to be low enough with the conventional single cone synchronizer. Some resistance downshifting into 1st was thought desirable to prevent mis-shifts.........
